Xbox One S vs. Xbox One X: The Quest For Dominance

Those who dare win. But which of these two winners wins over the other?

Microsoft claims to be unleashing the “most powerful” gaming machines there are with their lineup of Xbox One S and Xbox One X. These promise you to jump ahead of the gaming rat race of the best, the most sought-after, and the most advanced. But with this tense competition for gaming brilliance domination, which between these two proves to be better?

Microsoft is definitely proving its superiority in everything it does. It is even said by Larry Ellison, the 5th wealthiest person in America and the 7th wealthiest in the world as of August 2017 (Forbes), that, “It’s Microsoft versus mankind, with Microsoft having only a slight lead.” This is evident in all the products that they offer, including both Xbox One S and Xbox One X, Microsoft’s two flagship consoles.

While these two have quite plenty of similarities to start with, gamers will definitely see various differences when it comes to its performance. And choosing between the two is like being caught in a delightful dilemma’s horn. This is so because the two put their best foot forward.

Sharing Similarities

It is quite an understatement that there are quite notable similarities between Xbox One S and Xbox One X. These similarities include their media playback, connectivity, as well as the forms of ports. Moreover, they have the same USB 3.0 connectors which can be both found at the front and two at the rear. And not also forget their HDMI ports in the consoles, Ethernet, IR output, as well as the S/PDIF audio.

If you a theatre enthusiast, it would be hard not to acknowledge the Dolby Atmos that is present. And how can we even forget its Dolby Digital 5.1 audio? In addition, both supports 4K HDR content through the HDR 10 standard. These two definitely are a must for theatre enthusiasts out there.

Strength In Differences

While it is true that both consoles support 4K HDR content, there is still a thin line that separates the two.

The Xbox One S boasts its 1080p graphics which runs at 60fps. This can be best seen if you have played the Forza Horizon 3. It is worth noting that not all consoles are capable of doing this. But with Xbox One S’ 12 GCN compute units, it can run and reach 914MHz.

4K Home Entertainment

To set everything straight, the Xbox One S serves as the first game console which was able to offer 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray playback. And how can we even forget to mention the HDR picture tech that it also boasts?

Since we already mentioned the 4K capability of the two consoles, it is also noteworthy to acknowledge the consoles’4K entertainment–which are quite identical with each other. Both are capable of being played for 4K Blu-rays and streaming for Ultra HD such as YouTube, Amazon Video, and Netflix.

Design

To date, the Xbox One X is considered to be the smallest Xbox ever made by Microsoft. But despite its size, it is still quite heavier compared with the Xbox One S. The Xbox One X comes in with its 8.4-pound built while the One S is at 6.4 pounds.

Yet despite the difference in its weight, both consoles are identical with their fresh and sleek designs. These characteristics of both consoles are the same reasons why these two are staples in the entertainment center of every home. Traditionally, the Xbox One X comes in with its dark grey finish. On the other hand, the Xbox One S looks sleek in white. Yet, you might also come to see the other limited-editions and others models in different colors.

Performance

While both are under the same umbrella, these two are quite different when it comes to their performance. But without even looking at the specs of the two even further, it is obvious that these consoles can match the mid-range gaming PCs that we have at present. The Xbox One S proves to be not an amateur as its technology is the same with the technology used in the original Xbox One of 2013.

As such, it is quite easy to say that the two will have a different way of showing off its performance. But despite the difference, both are able to deliver the UHD resolution.

Since we are talking about UHD, then it is quite impossible not to mention the upscaled Full HD that is delivered by Xbox One S. This is made possible by “checkerboarding” anti-aliasing technology. This technology is known to create pixels wherein the first place there are none. Hence, it gives an impression that the images are sharper and clearer. But don’t be fooled though. The images produced are not actually 4K.

Hardware

If there is one thing that the Xbox One X has to offer apart from its existing specs, then it would be the new power delivery as well as the cooling system. These are great key players for a small yet powerful console which makes sure that temperature is in check and performance is on top of the game.

Another thing that is quite different between the two is the storage. The Xbox One S ranges from 500GB to 2TB. On the other hand, the Xbox One X starts from 1TB, for the hard disk, and 8GB, for the flash storage. One might be confused with the 8GB that is included with the Xbox One X. This is actually present since it helps in making the operating system speed up. It’s made possible as the 8Gb serves as a storage of the frequently- accessed files.

TomsGuide.com

There is little doubt that Xbox One X is a more powerful, more graphically competent games console than the Xbox One S, but you have to pay a premium price for such a premium machine.

If you are content with Full HD gaming, the Xbox One S is an excellent games machine and 4K Blu-ray player for just £200. Hardcore gamers and those looking to futureproof their setup might choose to invest the extra, however.

Pocket-Lint.com

If nothing else, the introduction of the Xbox One X, the Xbox One S’s subsequent price drop and the original Xbox One’s lack of availability, it becomes clear that this three horse race is now down to two. The standard Xbox One is no longer a competitive console, which is good news for Microsoft, which it seems is planning to continue rotating through Xbox One consoles, rather than resetting the platform completely.

Unfortunately, the Xbox One X still has limited appeal. Only those with 4K HDR TVs are going to see a big benefit from the $500 cost associated with the higher-powered console. For most, the Xbox One S is still the best option, and it is now available at a better price.

DigitalTrends.com

The two Xbox consoles have plenty of promises that both can actually deliver. May it be with their community, reliability, and endless possibility. Both vow to make you play the best games of the past, present, and future. Plus, these two engages players to jump ahead with sought-after features of 4K entertainment, 4K gaming spatial audio, and endless entertainment apps. Thus, Xbox One S vs. Xbox One X, it only depends on you if you’re going to choose the best value in games and entertainment or the jacks of all trades. You choose.
