The 2-on-2 arcade basketball title, NBA Playgrounds 2, by Saber Interactive was supposed to launch on PC and consoles last May of this year. But, the developer had to push back its release date to an unknown date. It has been said that the upcoming 2-on-2 arcade basketball game was delayed because there will be “exciting things brewing with the NBA Playgrounds franchise that…will take arcade basketball to new levels.”

A few months later, Saber Interactive revealed a huge announcement regarding the NBA Playgrounds 2. And as it turns out, the delay was due to developer Saber Interactive settling a publishing deal with 2K Games, who developed NBA 2K19.

Now, the two companies collaborated to re-brand the franchise as “NBA 2K Playgrounds 2,” which is scheduled to release on October 16 this year for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

Furthermore, since Saber Interactive sealed the deal with 2K Games, they are able to make use of 2K’s licenses, including music tracks and former NBA player representations. It’s also put the team of Saber Interactive in close seats with Visual Concepts, the 2K Studio while developing NBA 2K Playgrounds 2. This partnership has given Saber Interactive the opportunity to receive important feedback for the development of the game.

NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 will feature 300 players at launch with the promise to add 200 more later on. Plus, aside from the inclusion of today’s most popular NBA superstars, basketball legends such as Michael Jordan, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, and Kareem Abdul-Jabaar will also be added in the game.
