Game’s History

A Japanese visual novel studio in Japan known as Key is the developer of the  Clannad. Originally, the game was first released in 2004 for Windows PCs with a rating for all ages. Later on, it was ported to several gaming platforms such as PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, PS3, and PS VITA but only available in the Japanese language.

However, in 2015, an American video game publisher named Sekai Project released an English version of the game on Steam. Before, those who want to have the translated version of the game need to purchase the PC Version.

But in June 2018, a PS4 version of the game with Japanese and English translation was released by Prototype. And now, the game is ready to spread its wings to the Nintendo Switch console in Japan.

Clannad is considered as one of the best visual novels ever made as its story touched so many people. Now, Clannad is more than ready to spread the incredible piece of storytelling it has to offer.

Story

For those who don’t know what Clannad is all about, here is the game’s story for you.

The game is set in the Hikarizaka Private High School where Okazaki Tomoya studies. Tomoya is the lead protagonist who is a third-year high school often labeled as a delinquent. Behind those social judgments, Tomoya is actually leading a life full of resentment.

When he was still young, his mother died due to a car accident. His father Naoyuki was so weak to handle the situation and later on, became an alcoholic and gambler. Because for him, it is easier to survive life without his wife by doing these things.

As dark days entrails in their lives, constant fights between the two happened. Until one day, Naoyuki broke Tomoya’s shoulder. Since then, Tomoya began to distance himself from other people especially from his father. However, despite his emotionally-disconnected behavior and rude social tendencies, he is actually warm-hearted to others.

One day, while he was heading to school, Tomoya meets an unfamiliar girl named Furukawa Nagisa. Nagisa is Clannad’s main heroine. Nagisa is very timid and quirky in nature. However, she struggles with self-confidence and has an obsession with the anachronous mascot group known as the Big Dango Family. She is in the midst of repeating her senior year of high school due to an illness that made her completely weak, unable to attend school.

Since the day of their first encounter, Tomoya felt something strange for Nagisa and find himself heading towards a new path in his life. As the story progresses, Tomoya’s and Nagisa’s relationship has the potential to step up to the next level of friendship.

Enjoy the captivating story of Clannad and witness more interesting characters with their enjoyable and diverse personalities. Plus, another exciting feature of the game is the after story which occurs after the high school life of the characters.
