Gamescom 2019 I What To Expect At Europe’s Biggest Game Conference
What, when and where is Gamescom 2019?
While E3 is US’ very own big gaming event, Europe has its own Gamescom happening this August 20-24 at Koelnmesse Convention Center in Cologne, Germany. It started in 2009 and thereafter held annually from mid to late August.
Gamescom is one of the most anticipated gaming events in the world every year. It is a big opportunity for game publishers to let people play their game, unveil and tease the fans of new details regarding their upcoming works, and so much more! The convention is open for both the industry and the public.
Event Schedule
- Tuesday 20 August – 7 am to 8 pm (press and trade visitors only)
- Wednesday 21 August – 9 am (press and trade), 10 am (public) to 8 pm
- Thursday 22 August – 9 am (press and trade), 10 am (public) to 8 pm
- Friday 23 August – 9 am to 8 pm
- Saturday 24 August – 9 am to 8 pm
Opening Night
Before its official opening day on the 20th, Geoff Keighley, the Game Awards producer and creator, shared about the event’s opening night to kick off this year’s Gamescom on his twitter account.

On the night itself, Geoff Keighley hosted the event for the very first time with a 2-hour presentation of upcoming games and announcements. Hideo Kojima, the legendary game director of action-adventure stealth video game Metal Gear Series and of the upcoming action game Death Stranding, made an appearance. The 2-hour long presentation also features world premiere content for upcoming games such as Death Stranding, Gears 5, Predator: Hunting Grounds, Call of Duty and more.
There are also various game announcements from publishers 2K, Activision, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Bungie, Capcom, Electronic Arts, Epic Games, Google Stadia, Kochi Media/ Deep Silver, Private Division, Sega, Square Enix, Sony Interactive Entertainment, THQ Nordic GmbH, Ubisoft and Xbox Games Studios.
The Opening Night Live is being live-streamed on Youtube via The Game Awards official Youtube Channel (You may check their Youtube Channel if you missed it last night).
What to Expect?
Gamescom 2019 is being participated with numerous game publishers and developers around the world. Everyone is excited about world premiere contents, exciting announcements and some playable games on their respective booths and we have here some games and publishers that you can expect to showcase at Gamescom 2019.
Some most anticipated games released a new trailer and gameplay last night at the Opening Night.

Today, for the event’s first official day here are some companies and games we expect to see:
Xbox will host an off-site open doors event at a theatre up the road, its free to enter and everyone can participate in tournaments, panel discussions and more. The big games we expect to see include Gears 5, Battle Toads, Minecraft Dungeons and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.
The Xbox Booth will showcase some playable third-party games like Borderlands 3, Doom Eternal and Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
Playstation no longer hosts any specific media events at Gamescom but we expect to see the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Death Stranding at their massive booth on the show floor.
Nintendo has a long list of Switch games playable in its booth. It includes Luigi’s Mansion 3, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Astral Chain, the Switch version of The Witcher III: The Wild Hunt, and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. A live stream of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Invitational tournament on the afternoon of August 22nd will be shown on the Nintendo UK Youtube Channel.
Bandai Namco has several games on its booth, including the spiritual sequel to Until Dawn, Man of Medan, Dragon Ball Kakarot, Code Vein and RAD, however, it won’t be playable.
They will also distribute CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 in Europe, but you will only be able to get a glimpse of it in a behind closed doors session at the show.
Ubisoft is expected to show more about Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and Watch Dogs Legion.
