This week, another big annual gaming event sets on fire with this year’s Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. Starting today, August 20, the event will run until the 24th where various talented publishers and developers offer visitors an opportunity to try out their latest projects. But that’s not all. Of course, Gamescom 2019 celebrates all things about video games and a ton of news updates and surprises are about to be revealed anytime soon.

The main dish of Gamescom 2019 isn’t out yet. But a sumptuous appetizer was served last night to set everyone’s hungry soul for a bunch of upcoming gaming news and surprises.

Well known publishers such as Nintendo, Microsoft and Google kicked off the show a day earlier by conducting their own press conference, revealing some of the important announcements that you wouldn’t want to miss.

Nintendo




Nintendo was the first major publisher to open the curtain of the show. And as expected, it highlights various exciting reveals. The video presentation is a roulette of indie games that are on the horizon coming to the Nintendo Switch and lasted for about 20 minutes.

The publisher also surprised us with the launch of Superhot and Hotline Miami on the Nintendo Switch which is now available via the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Meanwhile, talking about big reveals, Ori and the Blind Forest by Microsoft Studios for Xbox One and PC steal the show as Nintendo announced that the game is indeed coming to the Nintendo Switch!

Microsoft brought plenty of trailers in their presentation with fresh looks and updates on its various AAA games. We have seen a number of trailers, gameplay, as well as some exciting reveals on the Xbox Game Pass program.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

  • Season 4 Update – coming to Xbox One on August 27
  • PUBG will add cross-play support allowing PS4 & Xbox One players to join the popular battle royale.
  • Cross-play feature is expected to roll out in early October.

Gears 5

  • Horde mode is returning to the game with a few new twists.
  • Each character will have a unique Ultimate Ability in Horde Mode.
  • Emile-A239 and Kat-B320 from Halo: Reach will also appear in the game.
  • Both characters will be available in Horde, Escape, and Versus modes and will have their own unique ultimate abilities in the multiplayer mode.

Wasteland 3

  •  A new trailer for the upcoming squad-based RPG has been revealed, featuring the Desert Rangers responding to a call from the Patriarch of Colorado.

New Xbox Game Pass Titles

  •  Devil May Cry 5 and Stellaris are now available.
  • Ape Out, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Bard’s Tale IV: Directors’ Cut, and Blair Witch are poised to release sometime this month.
  • Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is now available for PC subscribers.

New Xbox One Controller Designs

  • Night-Ops Camo – Due out on October 8th. The new controller features a camouflage design and a metallic gold D-pad.
  • Sport Blue controller – Due out on September 17th. This new controller sports a unique geometric design with metallic embellishments.

Google hosted its Stadia Connect presentation and delivered a variety of brand new trailers. Plus, many of these were for the games that had not previously been announced for Stadia such as Cyberpunk 2077, Samurai Shodown, and Mortal Kombat 11. Stadia exclusive games were also shown including Orcs Must Die! 3 and Gylt.


Gamescom Opening Night Live




Geoff Keighley, the host of the event, called it off by hosting Gamescom Opening Night Live showcasing two-hour worth of numerous premieres from various game publishers.

Some of the games that were featured during the Gamescom Opening Night Live includes Gears 5Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Death Stranding, Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, Need for Speed: Heat, Comanche, Little Nightmares 2, and Predator: Hunting Grounds.

More so, a huge surprise came in and it’s from Sony. The major news from the famous publisher revealed that they have acquired Insomniac Games, which is known from their great works such as Marvel’s Spider-man, Sunset Overdrive, Spyro the Dragon, and Ratchet & Clank.
