Black Adam – The time of heroes is over!

Before Shazam, there was Black Adam!
The nemesis of the original Captain Marvel is infused with the powers of the ancient Egyptian gods: the stamina of Shu, the swiftness of Horus, the strength of Amon, the wisdom of Zehuti, the power of Aton, and the courage of Mehen. Serving as a magical champion more than 5000 years ago, Teth-Adam started his journey into the dark side the day when he killed the pharaoh to satisfy his appetite for power.
This act turned the hero into the evil Black Adam!
Appeared for the first time in The Marvel Family #1 (December 1945). He’s one of the most dangerous and powerful supervillains in the comic books multiverse. And with his wife, Isis, and her brother Osiris Black Adam created the Black Marvel Family whose mission is to protect the land known as Kahndaq; a beautiful country located in the Sinai Peninsula. Culturally inspired by Ancient Egypt, through the millennia the Kahndaq has been one of the main settings for some of the most important in DC Comics’ history, including the Infinite Crisis and the coming of the Four Horsemen of Apokolips.

More dangerous than Superman and Batman. Black Adam can’t be considered only as a simple supervillain, but also as an anti-hero. Despite he’s physically weaker than other metahumans, he possesses a tenacity that allows him to achieve all the objectives he has set. In addition, he doesn’t follow the “no-kill rule”. If you do something wrong to Black Adam, he’ll not bring you to justice, you’re going to die, quickly and easily. Actually, from this point of view, we may find a connection between him and the British comic icon Judge Dredd. Obviously, a so powerful character couldn’t be confined inside the four sides of a page, in fact, we can meet him in many other media including animated series, video games, audiobooks, action figures, and the super live-action movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson!

No superhero can beat me!

As part of the DC Extended Universe which includes movies like Wonder Woman, Shazam, Justice League, Suicide Squad, and also the epic series Peacemaker. In Black Adam, The Rock uses the powers of the gods of Egypt to save Kahndaq from the attack of the Intergang. A criminal organization created by Jack Kirby for the Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen series in 1970. Formed by a vast number of supervillains – Lex Luthor, Darkseid, Doctor Sivana, Mantis & Torque (just to name a few) – this band of villains rules the country with an iron hand, so the US government official Amanda Waller summons Black Adam thinking he can solve the situation, but only with the help Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone the Intergang and its Legions of Hell can be defeated…

Epic at the maximum level, the character of Black Adam is richer and more multifaceted than he seems initially. As the legendary Mike Carlin said. “He’s the perfect example of a character who is literally the dark opposite of the hero. He has the same powers and abilities but different motivations. Black Adam is a strong character for his beliefs. He’s not doing things only for personal gain. He’s doing some things that are admirable, but going about it in a rougher way.”
