Led by the former Castlevania series producer Koji Igarashi, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is an upcoming action-adventure video game developed by ArtPlay, DICO, and WayForward Technologies. 505 Games got the publishing rights to release the game to Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
How it All Started
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was first announced in 2015 through a Kickstarter campaign. Surprisingly, the game already garnered its $500,000 goal in just a span of 4 hours and raised over a whopping $1 million in its first day.
By the end of the campaign, the game successfully raised more than $5.5 million, making it the most funded video game through a crowdfunding campaign at that time.

Wii U & PS Vita Versions Canceled
Originally, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is also planned for a release in Wii U and PS Vita. However, both the Wii U and PS Vita versions have been canceled. According to director Koji Igarashi, they have to stop the development of the game on the Wii U console in favor of the Nintendo Switch version.
During our Kickstarter campaign, the Wii U was at the height of its popularity, but the situation has drastically changed after the release of Nintendo Switch. This change made it difficult to receive the necessary support from the hardware maker, which has led us to drop the Wii U development and shift the development to Nintendo Switch. – Igarashi
On the other hand, the team has to put the development of the game on PS Vita to an end as well due to “Sony’s plans to discontinue the Vita console, ending production of physical copies and stopping certain online store support features.”
It is extremely unfortunate, but as a result, we won’t be releasing the game on Vita. For the backers who have ordered the PS Vita version of the game, you will be able to choose another platform or request a refund. – Igarashi
Being a huge PlayStation and Sony fan myself, I also know cancelling the Vita version of the game may be disappointing to some of you, but with Sony’s plans to discontinue the console and physical production of games, removing Vita titles from PS+ lineups etc., it was an unfortunate but necessary decision to make. Release Date
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was first teased for a 2017 release but delayed to 2018. As of the time of writing, the game is currently scheduled to appear sometime in Summer 2019 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
